Getting to LAX from Camarillo and Oxnard: Shuttle, Rideshare or Private SUV?

Airport Transfers · September 22, 2026 · 7 min read

Western Ventura County is a wonderful place to live and a slightly awkward place to fly from. Camarillo, Oxnard, Port Hueneme and the Channel Islands Harbor are all 55 to 65 miles from LAX, and the whole trip runs down a single corridor — the 101 — that can be serene at dawn and miserable at 4 p.m. This guide covers the timing, the route and the three ways most 805 travelers make the trip, so you can pick the one that fits your flight and your patience.

Drive times from the Oxnard plain to LAX

Typical door-to-terminal times. The first number is off-peak; the second is what to plan for on a weekday afternoon:

  • Camarillo (Mission Oaks, Camarillo Springs, Spanish Hills) — 65 min / up to 1 h 45 min
  • Oxnard (Riverpark, Oxnard Shores, downtown) — 75 min / up to 2 h
  • Port Hueneme and Naval Base Ventura County — 80 min / up to 2 h 10 min
  • Channel Islands Harbor and Hollywood Beach — 80 min / up to 2 h 10 min
  • Somis and Santa Rosa Valley — 65 min / up to 1 h 40 min

For a domestic flight, add the two hours airlines recommend at LAX (three for international) and 15 minutes for 2026's terminal construction. A 7 a.m. flight from Camarillo means leaving around 4:00 a.m.; a 6 p.m. Friday flight means leaving by 2:00 p.m.

The 101 vs the 118: which route your driver picks

The default is the 101 South through the Conejo Grade, then Thousand Oaks and Calabasas, to the 405 South over the Sepulveda Pass. It's the shortest and usually the fastest. When the 101 stalls between Agoura Hills and Woodland Hills, an experienced driver has a second option: the 118 East via the 23 from Camarillo through Moorpark and Simi Valley, then down the 405 from the north end of the Valley. It's a few miles longer and occasionally saves half an hour. The point isn't which is better — it's that someone who drives this corridor daily decides for you before the pickup.

Option 1: shared airport shuttle

Camarillo and Oxnard have long relied on scheduled shared shuttles and the regional airporter service to LAX. They're economical for one person, but they run on a timetable, pick up several passengers along the way and can add an hour or more to an already long trip. If your flight is delayed on the way home, you may wait for the next scheduled departure. Best for: single travelers with flexible schedules who don't mind the stops.

Option 2: rideshare

Uber and Lyft work fine from Camarillo when demand is normal, but 60-mile one-way runs to LAX at 4 a.m. or on a holiday weekend are exactly the requests drivers decline. Pricing rises with demand, and on the return leg you'll walk or shuttle to the LAX-it lot before you can even request a car. We compare the two models in detail in Private Car Service vs Uber Black at LAX.

Option 3: private luxury SUV with a fixed fare

RideYeah runs LAX ⇄ Camarillo as a fixed $288.66 fare in a full-size luxury black SUV — all-in, with the online service fee, tolls and airport fees included and gratuity optional. Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Channel Islands Harbor are quoted instantly in the booking search. Your chauffeur tracks the flight, meets you at the curb or inside the terminal, and wait time on arrivals is complimentary. The price is identical at 4 a.m. and on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

From the Oxnard plain, the LAX run is long enough that the ride is the trip. Choose it the way you'd choose the flight.

Burbank as an alternative

From Camarillo, Hollywood Burbank Airport is about 55 minutes — only ten minutes closer than LAX — so the airport choice comes down to the flight rather than the drive.
